Explora's Career Pathways Program at X Studio

Explora’s Career Pathways Internship (CPI) program offers high school juniors and seniors a gateway to move beyond economic limitations and into intellectually stimulating, personally rewarding employment in STEAM jobs that serve the community, contributes to Explora's educational mission, and leads to expanded educational and career opportunities.

Program Structure

First Year: Juniors focus on workforce training and STEAM education under mentorship, gaining skills in classroom management and visitor engagement.

Second Year: Seniors deepen STEAM knowledge, engage with professionals, and plan for future steps like higher education or certifications.

*Requirements to Apply:

  • Interest in STEAM and STEAM careers
  • Desire to learn and practice transferable workplace skills
  • Rising High School Junior
  • Capacity to fully participate for a minimum of 10 hours up to 20 hours per week
The CPI program empowers Albuquerque youth by offering paid internships and essential career support, contributing to community economic growth. We offer weekly training on workforce skills, financial literacy, STEAM concepts, and social-emotional learning. All interns receive one-on-one mentorship with a member of Explora staff to further their personal, career, and educational goals. Program perks include guided college visits, exposure to career pathways and opportunities, youth networking events, and more!

Applications open in early August for High School Juniors, and the program starts onboarding in mid-September.

In early 2022 Explora will celebrate the opening of X Studio, Explora’s new teen center: a place to hang out, experiment, create, and learn. X Studio brings teens and their dreams together with cutting-edge tools, technologies, and mentors—all with a focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math). As part of X Studio’s mission to increase engagement in, awareness of, and motivation to pursue STEM careers among local low-income teens of color, Explora is thrilled to announce the Career Pathways Program.

The primary goal of Explora's Career Pathways Program is to open a gateway for low-income youth to move beyond economic limitations and into intellectually stimulating, personally rewarding employment which serves the community, contributes to Explora's educational mission, and leads to expanded educational and career opportunities.
