Color My World

Grades K-3rd from 9am-4pm (Full Day)

The color systems used by scientists and artists are entirely different. An artist will mix blue and yellow paint to get a shade of green; a scientist will mix green and red light to create yellow. Students will discover some basic principles of color theory and experiment with them to create colored shadows, mix color paints and create their own colors when using different materials and mediums. They will also observe colors “appearing” when using paper chromatography.

Creative Woodworking

This two day camp is a multi-age collaborative camp experience; 9:00-4:00, $145 for members/$160 for non-members.

Explore creative woodworking! In this 2-day camp, you will learn some of the interesting properties of wood. You will learn to use hand tools, such as knives, chisels and planes to shape wood. You will also explore basic woodturning techniques on a lathe. You will make projects that help build an understanding of the nature of wood along with skills for safe and effective shaping technique—and to express creativity in designing something, then, making it!

  • Activities: Classroom activities as described.
  • Food: Please pack self-contained peanut-free snacks and lunch as appropriate.
  • Break time: Outside, weather permitting.
  • Pick-up: Adults will be asked to show photo ID at pick-up.

Explora educators develop camp activities with children’s developmental levels in mind. Your children will have the opportunity to learn from, and work with older and younger peers and make new friends.

  • Please have the following available when you register: emergency contact name and phone numbers; name of alternate adults who can pick up the child; child’s medications, dosages, and physician’s name; child’s insurance information, as well as any allergy or special needs information for your child.

EXPLORA VIRTUAL SPRING BREAK CAMP

Explora virtual spring break camp programs are designed for your students to have an in-depth “camp” experience without leaving your home. All camps have associated materials kits that will be available for pick-up curbside at Explora on March 19, 20, or 22 ahead of the program. Details on pick up will be sent in a follow-up email. Virtual Camps will be led by Explora educators on Zoom with approximately 15 students per class. Participants should have access to a wifi-enabled device with a camera. Each session's Zoom meeting link will be sent via email on the day of the class.

Roots Explorers Project (REP)

In conjunction with NM Black Leadership Council

For students in grades 4th-8th

Join Explora and Root Summer Leadership Academy for a FREE virtual hands-on, interactive, collaborative project-based winter camp that combines art, science, and community. Students will meet artists and other professionals during this two-week virtual program. The two-week program concludes with a capstone project showcasing student creativity, storytelling, and understanding of community.

Every year Explora offers a variety of summer programs that provide STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) engagement and enrichment and prevent summer learning loss. Explora offers unique investigations for a range of grade levels, in order to keep imaginations and brain cells active with STEAM! Choices include in-person camps at Explora, the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum, and the Agri-Nature Center in Los Ranchos, along with virtual online STEAM camps.

Welcome, young balloonists, to this exciting collaboration between Explora and the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum! EXPLORA VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMP

Explora virtual summer camp programs are designed for your students to have an in-depth “camp” experience without leaving your home. All camps have associated materials kits that will be available for pick-up curbside at Explora ahead of the program. Virtual Summer Camps will be led by Explora educators on Zoom. Participants should have access to a wifi-enabled device with a camera. Each session's Zoom meeting link will be sent via email on the day of the class.

Roots Explorers Project (REP)

In conjunction with NM Black Leadership Council

For students in grades 4th-8th

Join Explora and Root Summer Leadership Academy for a FREE virtual hands-on, interactive, collaborative project-based winter camp that combines art, science, and community. Students will meet artists and other professionals during this two-week virtual program. The two-week program concludes with a capstone project showcasing student creativity, storytelling, and understanding of community.

This program will be held free of charge for students. Students will receive a kit of materials to participate. Space is limited - students must be registered to participate by December 18
