This week long camp is a multi-age, collaborative camp experience, 9:00-2:00, $250 members/$275 non-members.

In-person classes will meet all CDC and CYFD guidelines, with small numbers of campers per classroom. All campers and staff must wear masks and pass a daily COVID-19 screening.

Explora offers a variety of week-long summer camps that inspire learners of all grade levels to get excited about science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).  At Explora, campers preK-12th will get engaged and keep their brain cells buzzing by exploring STEAM topics in materials-rich and creative environments. Choices include in-person camps at Explora, Balloon Camp at the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum, and Farm Camp at the Agri-Nature Center in Los Ranchos. Make sure to check out our X Studio programs for teens (6th grade and above!). Let’s get curious!

Things That Move!

For ages 8-12

$150 members/$170 non-members

Options:

  • 1st week: July 5th-8th from 9am-2pm.
  • 2nd week: July 11th-15th from 1pm-4pm.

Awaken your inner engineer as you compete in catapult challenges, soar paper airplanes, and design your very own hovercraft! Our "Things That Move" summer camp is specifically designed for neurodiverse individuals and their siblings! Come tinker, play, build social skills, and discover new things!

Requirements: Campers need to be able to: 
  • Communicate (verbally, communication device/ system).
  • Have independent personal care including bathroom skills and feeding skills.

The Art and Science of Ballooning in New Mexico

Welcome, young balloonists, to this exciting collaboration between Explora and the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum! Spend the week exploring art, “envelopes,” weather science, and all things ballooning. Meet a local balloonist as we look into the local and international history of balloons. Experiment with buoyancy, lift, and more to determine your very best designs.

Sensational Senses on the Farm

How do we experience the world through our senses? How do plants and other animals use their senses? Join us on the farm for sensational activities that investigate smell, taste, vision, sound and touch, and explore how our senses work together to tell us about our surroundings.

Water in the Wild:
Water plays a powerful role in any ecosystem. We’ll examine the Rio Grande, bosque ecosystems, and acequias to learn how people, animals, and water are all connected at the farm and in the wild!

See how water is shared by plants, animals, and humans and play with water in the wild!


July 11-July 15, 2022

Farming of the Future:
What is the intersection of farming and tech? In this hands-on, tech-based farm camp, you will explore a variety of aspects of farming and agriculture and innovate current farming methods through coding. Apply technology to centuries-old farming practices and bring your farming into the future. Scholarships are available for Farming the Future.

Watermania with the Center for Water and the Environment:
Dive into water science with guest educators from UNM’s Center for Water & the Environment. Through coding, designing and inventing, you’ll work with a variety of water samples and test for water quality, build water level monitors, and learn about careers in water management and resources. Water is a crucial New Mexico resource- learn about the intersection of water and tech that has real-world applications! This program will be hosted by the Larry P. Abraham Agri-Nature Center in Los Ranchos. Scholarships are available for Watermania.
