COVID-Safe Practices

Following the CDC guidance for schools and other programs and spaces for children  Explora requires face masks that cover the mouth and nose must be worn at all times and are required for everyone over the age of 2. This is for the health and safety of our visitors, staff, and especially our friends who are too young to be vaccinated!

When planning your visit to Explora guests can reserve tickets up to 10 days in advance. We ask that guests reserve tickets rather than walk-in due to the construction, we want to decrease time spent by the noise for your optimal enjoyment of Explora. Visitors can expect to see a brand new exhibition, called Nature’s Notes, along with their earlier favorites, like the bubble table, the air rockets, and the Studio Inventivo Maker Space. The newest installment of Explora's campus X Studio will be open later this year! We will also have an updated gift shop, Rotunda, and even a new cafe! Check out X Studio here.

In order to take good care of our community, the following COVID-safe practices will be in place:

  • Following the most current science, Explora has installed UVC lamps inside the air handler units. UVC light has been shown to inactivate viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens, including Covid-19.
  • Explora is professionally cleaned nightly. Additionally, Breezy One, an autonomous robot designed and built by Build With Robots in Albuquerque will disinfect all touch able surfaces in the exhibit space each day. Programmed to operate after hours, the robot disinfects both the first and second floors of the museum in roughly 30 minutes and is capable of eliminating up to 99.99% of pathogens. The space is completely safe for human occupancy after two hours of disinfection.
  • Explora will increase ventilation and airflow by keeping key doors open to maximize airflow.
  • Hand sanitation stations will be arranged throughout the exhibition space.
  • Social distancing is expected. Please keep a minimum of six feet away from other visitors and staff. Our team members and signage will help you navigate your visit.
  • In accordance with CDC guidelines for schools and childcare centers, face masks that cover your mouth and nose will continue to be required, in order to protect our littlest visitors who are too young to be vaccinated.
  • Appropriate PPE is worn by all employees, based on their role and responsibilities, and in adherence to state and local regulations and guidance.
  • If you are feeling sick prior to your scheduled visit, we ask that you stay home.
  • Please refrain from eating or drinking during your visit; hopefully, picnics will resume later this summer!
