Fall in love with science, as you and your child explore together!

In Growing a Scientist, preschoolers ages 2½ to 5 and their parents or adult caregivers make discoveries about science by questioning, experiencing, and investigating. Early childhood educators engage children and their adults in science and engineering activities that incorporate art, literature, and fun! Each session focuses on a different theme. Activities change each semester.

In-person classes will meet all CDC  guidelines for COVID-19 safety, with a limited number of children per classroom and social distancing implemented when possible. Masks are recommended but not required (Explora staff will be masked).

Meets every other week for 1½ hours.
Parent or adult caregiver participation is required.

Registration Fee

Explora members* $150 per child per semester
Non-members $170 per child per semester

Explora’s Camps & Programs

Explora educators develop activities with children’s developmental levels in mind. Your children will have the opportunity to learn from, and work with older and younger peers and make new friends.


  • You can register online, by phone, or download and mail/fax the completed registration form.
  • Please have the following available when you register: emergency contact name and phone numbers; name of alternate adults who can pick up the child; child’s medications, dosages, and physician’s name; child’s insurance information, as well as any allergy or special needs information for your child.

Cancellation Policy

  • If a cancellation is received more than 5 business days before the camp, a refund will be issued for the amount minus a 15% administrative fee.
  • Cancellations received 5 business days or fewer before the camp will not be refunded.
  • Full fees will be refunded if Explora cancels a program

Crazy Concoctions

Be an inquisitive scientist as you concoct new substances. Investigate their characteristics as you first observe them and then manipulate them with your hands.

Amazing Circles

WE September 7/ TH September 8/ FR September 9/ SA September 10

Circles and the variations, disks, spheres, cylinders, domes, are the most common and versatile shape in the universe.

Gears, Ramps, and Blocks

WE September 21/ TH September 22/ FR September 23/ SA September 24

Experiment with gears, ramps of different heights, and blocks of different materials. Can you use your engineering skills to build a tall tower, move objects with gears, or roll an object down a ramp?

Rock Stars!

WE October 5/TH October  6/ FR October 7/ SA October 8

Examine a variety of rocks and crystals, Use magnifying loupes to make up close observations. Experiment to find if any of the rocks roll or fizz or float. Then make your own rock prints. 

Acids and Bases

Explore natural acid/base indicators such as red cabbage, black tea, grape juice and turmeric. We'll watch their colors change as we mix these indicators with acids and bases. We'll also use them to draw color changing pictures.

Switch on, Switch off

Turn things on and off as you explore open and closed circuits. Investigate a variety of switches and much more.

Under Construction

What did the "three little pigs" learn about structure? You'll become an architect and builder as you experiment with a variety of shapes and materials to test for strength and stability.

What’s That Sound?

WE November 30/ TH December 1/ FR December 2/ SA December 3

We’ll observe how sound waves travel through water or air, producing vibrations. Experience cup phones and build your own kazoo and quaker.
