Recently, educators from across New Mexico came together for the Teaching Beyond the Walls Garden Crawl, a day of hands-on exploration, collaboration, and inspiration focused on bringing outdoor learning to life.⁠
⁠
The day began at Alameda Elementary, where educators explored how school gardens connect students with science, sustainability, food systems, and stewardship of gardening. While continuing the day at the Albuquerque City Greenhouse, participants learned about plant care and propagation from local horticulture experts before rolling up their sleeves at La Mesa Elementary to help create a new outdoor learning space.⁠

Along the way, educators shared ideas, built connections, and discovered new ways to bring garden-based learning back to their own schools.⁠

“There are amazing things going on at schools all over town! Our school just started our garden, and I was able to walk away with so many ideas and connections to great folks that are able to help us along the way!” shared one participating teacher.⁠

Explora was proud to collaborate with the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District, and local community partners to make this experience possible.⁠
