"We can`t wait to have Explora back!" Thanks to the Santa Fe Community Foundation, Explora has been facilitating hands-on STEM programs at schools and libraries in Northern NM.
This past week, young children and their parents at Truchas Community Library explored animal camouflage. From finding "worms" camouflaged in paper to trying on capes to figure out what pattern best helped them blend into a background, participants discovered how animals hide. These young scientists then worked together to decorate a bunny to help it hide better in either the dirt or the snow.
We`ll visit Truchas again later this month to explore the mixing of colors. We are thankful to the Santa Fe Community Foundation for supporting multiple visits to small communities in Northern New Mexico. These community initiatives build upon schools and libraries as vibrant hubs of discovery and ensure that children, their families, and teachers in rural communities have the same access to high-quality STEM learning.

Every day, recyclable materials were transformed into engineering design challenges during a recent workshop with Foster Grandparents, a program of the City of Albuquerque’s Senior Affairs AmeriCorps. @cabqseniors
Participants spent the morning exploring how to use simple, everyday items to create hands-on learning opportunities that integrate science, engineering, math, and literacy. The foster grandparents will bring these creative ideas back to the schools and students they support through their volunteer work. We can`t wait to hear how they put the ideas into practice!

Our classrooms visited the site this week to see the foundation being poured, a big milestone in the construction of this future space for young learners! 🧱✨
Please join us for the Summit for Early Science Learning on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Explora, hosted by the Coalition for Science Learning in Early Childhood. Spanish interpretation will be available. Attendees will receive a swag bag with STEAM materials to use in their classrooms. Breakfast, lunch, and a training certificate will also be provided.
