Just steps from their school in Los Ranchos, a group of 5th graders recently spent the morning walking alongside an acequia, one of the historic waterways that has supported our communities for generations.
The Acequia Walk and Talk, led by the Center for Social Sustainable Systems (@cesoss_nm) in partnership with Explora and supported by the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (@mrgcd_nm), invited students to explore the science flowing right past their playground: how water moves, how gravity guides it, and how these systems sustain the land around them.
Through bilingual storytelling and conversation, students explored querencia, a deep sense of place and responsibility, and connected what they saw to their own school garden, linking classroom STEM with cultural knowledge and environmental stewardship.

We`re looking for a volunteer pianist to play once or twice a week for about an hour and help fill one of Explora`s most beloved spaces with music.
(Fair warning: it`s an old piano and a little out of tune.)

Join us for First Responders & Essential Workers Day on June 20, 10 am – 2 pm, and get curious about the science, tech, engineering, art, and math behind the work of first responders and essential workers.
An evening of beer, bites, and science. 🍺
Science of Beer 2026 features local breweries, tasty food vendors, trivia, and exclusive activities you won`t find anywhere else.
This year, we`re adding an extra hour of fun. Enjoy pours from Marble Brewery, Rio Bravo Brewing Company, Canteen Brewhouse, Boxing Bear Brewing Company, and Deer Creek Brewing Company, plus bites from Three Sisters Kitchen, Heidi`s Ice Cream, Southwest Grape & Grain, and CNM FUSE Makerspace.
Explore: build a beer caddy, dive into the microscopic world of beer, survive the Bed of Nails, hear from local brewmasters, compete in Beer Trivia, and stick around for a raffle.
