Week 1:  June 3-7

Morning

Nature’s Web: Take a walk on the wild side as we explore the ecosystems of the Rio Grande bosque. Each day we will travel to this reclaimed space while investigating and defining our role among local plants, animals, and the Rio Grande river. What will you find?
NOTE: This camp will require an additional transportation release.

Afternoon

Rules of Roads: Calling all speed-racers! Head to Explora to make and test roller coasters, ramps, raceways, and more. Investigate different shapes and materials to see which makes the best wheels, and deduct your very own rules of roads.

grades 2-3

Week 2:  June 10-14

Morning

Play Ball: Launch your egg off a football and see if it survives the crash test! Drop super-balls from high places! Build a mini-pinball machine and experiment with the science behind roller coasters. Use fun testing methods to discover the nature of collisions, impulses, and momentum.

Crazy Cars: Become a speed demon as you experiment with rubber band-powered, balloon-powered, and even mousetrap-powered cars.

Afternoon

Delve into Drafting:Explore building, architecture, design, modeling, community planning/design, and mapping! Architects gather and explore basic design concepts through traditional drawing methods and computer-aided design software. What sort of monument, buildings, and communities might you create?

Crazy about Colloids: What do shaving cream, milk, fog, and hair gel have in common? Experiment with these unique colloids to construct shaving-cream towers, create tie-dye milk art, and make your own cloud chamber.

Week 3:  June 17-21

Morning

Breakfast Science: Bananas, Bagels, and Bacon! Why is breakfast the most important meal of the day? Let’s get messy as we test and taste our theories.

Afternoon

Super Structures: Hone your engineering skills as you build bridges, towers, and roller coasters. Then, test your designs in classroom-simulated disasters like earthquakes!

Week 4:  June 24-28

Morning

Home Sweet Home: Discover where animals, plants, and insects like to live. Design a plant terrarium, construct a birdhouse, and even build a second home for a snail.

Afternoon

It’s Electric and Magnetic!: Explore electricity, magnetism and their connection. Build electrical circuits, experiment with static electricity, make and test electromagnets, discover magnetic switches and more.
