Local artist, maker, and educator Daveed Korup will offer ongoing exciting classes in Explora’s Studio Inventivo as our Resident Maker this spring! You can explore the science of sound and create your own unique musical instrument to take home! Different classes will offer different experiences and instruments to explore and build, so come to one or several. 

Classes are included with paid Explora general admission. No pre-registration is required, but class size is limited and on a first come first serve basis at class time.

Classes are offered most Thursdays, 3-5 pm, and Saturdays 2-5 pm from January 16 – April 18, 2020. There will be no class on February 20 or February 22.

A FREE workshop for schools, libraries, and out-of-school time programs!

Want to bring home the 2020 Census to your students? Join the GeoCivics team and Explora for a FREE workshop diving into geo-spatial technology, New Mexican history, geography, and local economies. You’ll explore hands-on mapping activities and free online geo-spatial resources for your classroom. 

Activities are best suited to middle and high school students.

This workshop is free, but pre-registration is required.

Description: In partnership with New Mexico Autism Society, Explora is offering Sensory-Friendly Hours, for visitors who prefer a less sensory-stimulating visit.

To encourage a sensory-friendly environment, we're limiting attendance to 150 people during Sensory-Friendly Hours. Frontiers for Young Minds is an ongoing Journal review project for ages 8-15. Join the Explora group of Frontiers for Young Minds, an open access, online science journal for kids! Participants meet once a month on Sunday afternoons and work closely with UNM mentors and Explora staff. They will meet at Explora to review neuroscience research articles written for kids and learn about being a research scientist through peer review activities and hands-on experiments.

These full-day camps are multi-age, collaborative experiences for children currently enrolled in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Before and after-care add-on options are also available. Explora and New Mexico Wine present Albuquerque’s second annual Science of Wine event! More than a wine tasting, the Science of Wine is an oenological odyssey as visitors journey through the chemistry, structure, and composition behind the wine. Visitors can enjoy all of Explora’s exhibits, wine-themed activities, free tastings, and cash bars. Vendors will be selling food chosen to pair with the evening’s wine selection.

You are encouraged to bring cash to expedite your purchases of food and drink!

Science of Wine will be from 7:30–11pm (last call at 10:30), and IDs will be checked at admission.

Adult Nights for ages 18+ Let your inner child out at an evening for grown ups!

The next Adult Night is Friday, January 17, 2020, 7-10pm. The theme will be “Know & Glow.” 

Regular admission fees apply. Members receive free admission!

Explora is offering Sensory Friendly Hours in partnership with the NM Autism Society.

Our next Sensory Friendly Hours day is Sunday, October 13 from 10am-noon.
