Spring & Summer Farm Camps

Offered by Explora in collaboration with the Village of Los Ranchos.

This camp is offered at the Larry P. Abraham Agri-Nature Center in Los Ranchos.

Farm Camps are offered at the Larry P. Abraham Agri-Nature Center in Los Ranchos with Explora. This full-week camp is a multi-age, collaborative experience held during spring and summer break.

Spring Farm Camp, K–5
Full-week camp: Monday, March 30 – Friday, April 3, 2020

Summer Farm Camp, PreK–12
Full-week camps: June 1–26, 2020

Registration fee per camper, per week:

All-Day K–12 Camp (9am-3pm) – 5 full days:  $260 per week for Explora members • $300 per week for Non-members

Morning Pre-K Camp (9am-noon) – 5 half days:  $150 per week for Explora members • $170 per week for Non-members

Spring Farm Camp

Full-week camp held Monday, March 30 – Friday, April 3, 2020, during APS spring break.

Grades K-1: Farming SOILutions

What exactly is soil? What can it do? In this week long farm camp, we will examine this crucial top layer of earth up close and in depth. Work with a variety of soils, both natural and synthetic, to find what is the best “SOILution” to support our little sprouts!


Grades 2-5: Horticulture Habitats

The animals are coming, the ground is getting warm. It is almost time for spring on the farm! Get your shovels out and put on your working clothes, we’ll be covered in fun from our heads to our toes. Design a garden and your very own critter habitat.

Summer Farm Camps

Full-week camps held Monday, June 1 – Friday, June 26, 2020

Week 1 – June 1–5

Morning (9am–12pm)

Pre-K: All About Agriculture

Delve into the exciting world of agriculture as we explore all the living things around us. How can we help them to grow? How do they help us to grow?

Full-day (9am–3pm)

Grades K–1: Tactile Textiles

What is a textile? How is it made? Explore the ins and outs of a variety of fabrics. Learn how to design, dye, and weave your own fabrics made from items found on the farm.

Grades 2–5: Seed to Plate

How does all that tasty food end up on your plate? Delve into all the exciting and delicious foods that can be made from ingredients found fresh on the farm. Investigate the many different ways that a seed can become part of your meal.


Week 2 – June 8–12

Full-day (9am–3pm)

Explore a variety of aspects of farming and agriculture. Innovate current farming methods. Apply technology to everyday tasks and get a glimpse of what farming could be in the future. This camp will require a $35 technology fee applied to parts for a take-home drone system.


Week 3 – June 15–19

Pre-K: Mudd, Muck, & Minerals

Prepare to get messy as we explore all the wonders of the world beneath our feet.

Full-day (9am–3pm)

Grades 6–12: Woodworking

This hands-on class will be a great opportunity to learn the basics of how to work with wood using traditional hand-powered tools, such as knives, chisels, drawknives, spokeshaves, planes, and carving tools. The second half of the week will involve learning basic woodturning techniques on a lathe. Students will make a series of simple projects designed to help develop an understanding of the nature of wood, as well as the strategies for safe and effective shaping techniques.

Farm Camp Registration Info

  • Drop Off: Anytime between 8:45-9am at the Larry P. Abraham Agri-Nature Center (4920 Rio Grande Blvd NW, Los Ranchos De Albuquerque, NM 87107)
  • Food: Please pack morning & afternoon peanut-free snacks and lunch as appropriate.
  • Pick-up: Noon for PreK, 3pm for K–5. Adults will be asked to show photo ID at pick-up.

Explora educators develop camp activities with children’s developmental levels in mind. Your children will have the opportunity to learn from, and work with older and younger peers and make new friends.

9am–12pm PreK Registration fees:

  • $150 per child, per week for Explora members
  • $170 per child, per week for non-members


9am–3pm K–12 Registration fees:

  • $260 per child, per week for Explora members;
  • $300 per child, per week for non-members.
Registration
  • Please have the following available when you register: emergency contact name and phone numbers; name of alternate adults who can pick up the child; child’s medications, dosages, and physician’s name; child’s insurance information, as well as any allergy or special needs information for your child.
  • All campers must be able to use the restroom on their own.

Cancellation Policy
  • If a cancellation is received more than 5 business days before the camp, a refund will be issued for the amount minus a 15% administrative fee.
  • Cancellations received 5 business days or fewer before the camp will not be refunded.
  • Full fees will be refunded if Explora cancels a program
