Explore basic principles of chemistry, biology, or physics through cooking, constructing, or experimenting in these camps designed for children who have completed kindergarten or first grade.

All-Day Camp (9am-4p) – 5 full days:  $260 Explora members • $300 Non-members

Morning (9am-noon) – 5 half days:  $130 Explora members • $150 Non-members

Afternoon Camp (1-4pm) – 5 half days:  $130 Explora members • $150 Non-members

Add Before or After Camp Care (optional): Times: 8-9am and/or 4-5:30pm, $5 per child, per morning or afternoon

The following is a list of Explora Summer Camp for children in grades K-1. The grade refers to the highest grades level completed.

Week 1:  June 5-9

Morning Classes

K-1st – Creepy Crawlies:  Investigate dirt and the creepy crawly things we find in it. Experiment with different types of soils and discover red wigglers, snails, mealworms, and much more.

K-1st – What’s Cooking in Chemistry:  Become a kitchen chemist! Experiment with common household materials, investigate reactions in a variety of substances, mix ingredients using kitchen chemistry to make delicious snacks, ice cream, and more. (Full)

Afternoon Class

K-1st – Pattern Pizzazz:  Go on a scavenger hunt to spot shapes, colors, and patterns. Then, create your own patterns using paints, beads, leaves, candy, and more.


Week 2 –  June 12-16

Morning Class

K-1st – Roadways and Raceways:  Calling all speed-racers! Make a roller coaster for marbles. Investigate different shapes for wheels to see which ones move best on bumpy roads. (Full)

Afternoon Class

K-1st – Crazy Concoctions:  Be an inquisitive scientist! Concoct slimy substances and observe their characteristics, watch colors change before your eyes as you mix different colored solutions to create new ones, and much more. (Full)


Week 3:  June 19-23

Morning Class

K-1st – Mechanics in Motion:  Test your strength against simple machines, explore gears and ramps, and discover ways that simple machines make life easier. (Full)

Afternoon Class

K-1st – Under Water:  Submerge yourself in the wondrous world of water as you experiment with floaters and sinkers, design a periscope, and explore how density can make liquids sink or float.


Week 4:  June 26-30

Morning Classes

K-1st – Color:  Is it red or is it green? Are you sure? Can you trick your eye? Explore colors and how they change.

K-1st – Taking Flight:  Experiment with wind tubes, design parachutes, make gliding toys, construct and test kites, and more. Up, up, and away we go! (Full)

K-1st – Little Green Thumb:  Get your hands dirty! Plant flowers, examine plants at various stages of growth, and dissect seeds. (Full)

Afternoon Class

K-1st – Keep it Balanced:  What can you get to balance? Explore the concepts of balance and counter-weight by balancing yourself, investigating balancing toys, and making mobiles. (Full)

Summer Camp
Registration Info

  • Drop Off: Anytime between 8:45-9 am.
  • Before care: (Extra option), beginning at 8 am.
  • Activities: Classroom activities as described, plus exhibit exploration.
  • Food: Please pack morning & afternoon peanut-free snacks and lunch as appropriate.
  • Break time: Outside on the Explora playground, weather permitting.
  • Pick-up: 12 pm for morning camp and 4 pm afternoon or full day camp. Adults will be asked to show photo ID at pick-up.
  • After care: (Extra option) for K-8, 4-5:30 pm.

Explora educators develop camp activities with children’s developmental levels in mind. Your children will have the opportunity to learn from, and work with older and younger peers and make new friends.

Summer Camp Fees

Half Day Camps

  • $130 for Explora members;
  • $150 for non-members.


Full Day Camps

  • $260 for Explora members;
  • $300 for non-members.
  • Some camps have greater costs due to materials.
Registration
  • All campers must be able to use the restroom on their own.
  • Please have the following available when you register: emergency contact name and phone numbers; name of alternate adults who can pick up the child; child’s medications, dosages, and physician’s name; child’s insurance information, as well as any allergy or special needs information for your child.

  • If a cancelation is received at least 5 business days before the camp, a refund will be issued for the amount minus a 15% administration fee.
  • Cancelations received fewer than 5 business days before the camp will not be refunded.
  • Full fees will be refunded if Explora cancels a program.
