June 4 – August 10, 2018

Fill the summer with explorations of nature, rockets, trash, magnets, printmaking, cooking, chemistry, optical illusions, and engineering challenges in these camps for children who have completed grade 2 or 3. Select a morning, afternoon, or one of each to make a full day of camp.

No camps July 2-6.

All-Day Camp (9am-4pm) – 5 full days:  $260 Explora members • $300 Non-members

Morning (9am-noon) – 5 half days:  $130 Explora members • $150 Non-members

Afternoon Camp (1-4pm) – 5 half days:  $130 Explora members • $150 Non-members

Add Before or After Camp Care (optional): Times: 8-9am and/or 4-5:30pm, $5 per child, per morning or afternoon

The following is a list of Explora Summer Camp for children who have completed grades 2 or 3.

Week 1:  June 4-8

Morning

2nd-3rd – Blast Off:  Design, construct, and test rockets powered by air or by water. Experiment with inertia, thrust, propulsion, and aerodynamics to make your rockets soar.

Afternoon

2nd-3rd – Smoke & Mirrors:  Investigate how and why the brain “sees” optical illusions. Experiment with shifting light, shadows, reflection, refraction, translucence, scattering, and focus that can cause deceptive perceptions.

Week 2:  June 11-15

Morning

2nd-3rd – Powders & Crystals:  Discover the wonders of chemistry as you transform powders, infuse fireworks with color, identify mystery mixtures, grow colorful crystals, and more!

Afternoon

2nd-3rd – Supercharged Science:  Electricity, conductivity, static charges, and magnetism – this camp has it all! Become an expert at circuits, motors, lights, and switches to design and create your own ingenious contraptions


Week 3:  June 18-22

Morning

2nd-3rd – Hot off the Presses! Printmaking is one of the most important inventions of our time.  Explore color, shapes, and patterns while making imprints using fruits, vegetables, and clay. Roll up your sleeves, roll out your ink, and get printing!

Afternoon

2nd-3rd – Trash Talks:  What is in our trash? Where does our trash go? The average American creates over four pounds of trash every day! Explore the ins and outs of trash as well as ways to refuse, reduce, reuse, and recycle.


Week 4:  June 25-29

Morning

2nd-3rd – Drawing Nature:  A journal is a powerful tool that can unlock creativity, hone observation skills, and record remarkable discoveries. Create your own nature journal while observing detail and patterns in flowers, insects, and plants. Learn a variety of illustration techniques while creatively documenting the natural world around us.

Afternoon

2nd-3rd – Engineering Workshop:  Can you restore an ancient ruin using ramps, cranes, hydraulics, and other systems? Question, imagine, create, and improve as you embark on a series of engineering design challenges to rebuild history.

Week 5:  July 9-13

Morning

All Day

Camp price is for the full day $260 for Explora members, $300 for non-members.

2nd-3rd – Wide World of STEAM:  Join us for this week of a wide range of science, technology, engineering, art, and math explorations. Discover the joy and excitement of investigation and inquiry as our educators lead in this Best of Explora camp.

Summer Camp
Registration Info

  • Drop Off: Anytime between 8:45-9am.
  • Before care: (Extra option), beginning at 8am.
  • Activities: Classroom activities as described, plus exhibit exploration.
  • Food: Please pack morning & afternoon peanut-free snacks and lunch as appropriate.
  • Break time: Outside on the Explora playground, weather permitting.
  • Pick-up: 12pm for morning camp and 4pm afternoon or full day camp. Adults will be asked to show photo ID at pick-up.
  • After care: (Extra option) for K-8, 4-5:30pm.

Explora educators develop camp activities with children’s developmental levels in mind. Your children will have the opportunity to learn from, and work with older and younger peers and make new friends.

Half Day Camps

  • $130 for Explora members;
  • $150 for non-members.


Full Day Camps

  • $260 for Explora members;
  • $300 for non-members.
  • Some camps have greater costs due to materials.
Registration
  • All campers must be able to use the restroom on their own.
  • Please have the following available when you register: emergency contact name and phone numbers; name of alternate adults who can pick up the child; child’s medications, dosages, and physician’s name; child’s insurance information, as well as any allergy or special needs information for your child.

  • If a cancelation is received at least 5 business days before the camp, a refund will be issued for the amount minus a 15% administration fee.
  • Cancelations received fewer than 5 business days before the camp will not be refunded.
  • Full fees will be refunded if Explora cancels a program.
