Explora’s Youth InternProgram involves high school students in a three-year internship during which they experience an engaging approach to learning and become educators in their community.
Intern Volunteers
Interns spend an initial 12 weeks in orientation and basic job training, learning about Explora. They participate in transactive educational experiences in science, technology, and art with Explora’s professional educators and staff.
During this training period, the interns also assist on the exhibit floor. They develop resumes and prepare for interviews in order to apply for a paid internship position. Schedule: • 3:30-6:30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday group trainings
(Explora can provide transportation from school and back home).
• 1.5 hour weekend shift on exhibit floor
Intern Apprentices and Intern Educators At this level interns become paid, part-time employees of Explora. The interns receive training in Explora teaching methods and provide community service by facilitating Explora’s educational programs for elementary school children. The interns are matched with Explora staff members who support the intern’s job performance and help with college selection, application, and exploration of potential careers.
Summer
During the summer months, youth interns are encouraged to work as paid assistants in our summer classes. The youth interns also assist explora’s educators in faciliting programs, assist with demonstrations and visitor services on Explora’s exhibit floor and participate in outreach events.
