The Explora Theater presents Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory. Written with warmth and humor, Radium Girls is a fast-moving ensemble piece about five young women whose historic court battle with the U.S. Radium Corporation in the 1920s paved the way for increased workers’ rights. Some 70 women were hired to perform tasks including handling radium without protection, while the corporation’s owners and the scientists familiar with radium's effects carefully avoided exposure to it. Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she watches her friends get sicker and fights for her day in court.
Performances: 7 pm on March 2, 3, 7, 9 and 10, and 3 pm on March 3, 4 and 11.
Admission: $5.50 for Explora members and $7.00 for non-members.
Famous scientists, explorers, artists and others who have changed our world come alive to talk about their life and work in the Explora Theater's weekend one-act plays. Performances run about half an hour, and offer visitors an opportunity to ask the performer questions afterward.
