Monday, March 11

  • 5 - 6 years
    Light and Shadow

Discover ways to create shadows as you investigate light by bouncing it and bending it. You'll explore shadow shapes, experiment with colored shadows and make shadow puppets.

  • 7 - 9 years
    Gliding Along

What keeps gliders  in the air so long? You'll use everyday materials to design, build and test gliders and other lightweight flying objects that use only air to stay aloft.

  • 7 - 9 years
    Light Your Way

Experiment with circuitry and lighting as you explore electrical components, LEDs and magnets. You'll make an electromagnet, build a homemade flashlight, wire a mock house and more.

  • 9 - 12 years
    It's a Small World

Explore the wonders of the microscopic world as you isolate your cheek cells and compare them with plant cells, discover creatures in a drop of pond water, see blood flowing in a fish tail and more.

Tuesday, March 12

  • 5-6 years
    Under the Microscope
What do your skin cells look like magnified? Discover the intricacies of a grain of sand, the patterns on snail shells, the hooks and loops of Velcro and more as you take a close up look at the world around you.

  • 7-9 years
    Polymer Play
Try your hand at making and investigating a variety of polymers. You'll experiment with shrinky dinks, test handmade polymer ropes, examine what makes diapers so absorbent and more.

  • 7-9 years
    Dense Science
Explore what sinks or floats as you experiment with density and buoyancy. You'll create density layers, explore how gases affect liquids, make your own density toys and more.

  • 9-12 years
    Images on the Move
Experiment with early animation techniques as you create  flipbooks, thaumotropes and cymascopes. You'll also explore stop motion photography using play dough, toys and drawings to create moving animations.

Wednesday, March 13

  • 5-6 years
    Up, Up and Away
Explore different shapes and materials as you build objects to float in streams of air, experiment with wing design to keep gliders soaring, and use air to do work!

  • 7-9 years
    What are the Chances?
Discover how probability is everywhere as you flip coins, roll marbles, throw dice and play cards. You'll also see how M&Ms® can be used in math as you learn how to predict which colored candy you're more likely to pick out of a bag.

  • 7-9 years
    From the Ground Up
Experiment with proportion, scale and architectural design as you create a virtual building with the computer program SketchUp. You'll then construct your design using recycled materials and wire it for electricity.

  • 9-12 years
    Motion Creation
Experiment with levers, pulleys and linkages as you design and build simple machines that can flap, dig or walk. You'll also problem solve to improve the movement and articulation of your creations.

Thursday, March 14

  • 5-6 years
    Make Your Mark
Explore a variety of materials and drawing techniques to investigate lines, textures and more. You'll also experiment with various printmaking techniques to repeat patterns, play with symmetry and more.

  • 7-9 years
    Imaginations Act Up!
Explore a variety of media in the Explora Theater, including puppetry, circus skills, storytelling and ensemble work.

  • 7-9 years
    Motion Creation
Experiment with levers, pulleys and linkages as you design and build simple machines that can flap, dig or walk. You'll also problem solve to improve the movement and articulation of your creations.

  • 9-12 years
    Alteration Creation
Combine different techniques to create variations of your artful images. You'll make digital photograph drawings and collages and transfer them to different surfaces, such as glass, wood, fabric and polymer clay.

Friday, March 15

  • 5-6 years
    Our Amazing Bodies
Let's celebrate the wonders of the human body, from our fingerprints, to our hearts, to our digestive system, to our bones! You'll also create a mural of your insides to take home.

  • 7-9 years
    Crazy about Colloids
What do shaving cream, fog, and hair gel all have in common? Explore these and other colloids as you experiment with tie-dye milk art, design shaving cream towers, discover the light reflective properties of fog and more.

  • 7-9 years
    Math Madness
Experiment with tessellations, geometry, graphing, puzzles, mirrors and more as you discover the mathematical patterns and symmetry in the world around you.

  • 9-12 years
    Seasons of the Sun
How did a librarian more than 2,200 years ago use shadows to measure the circumference of the earth? You'll try a similar experiment, discover sun spots, and explore how the earth's motion and tilt determine seasons
