Monday, March 20 – Friday, March 24                                      

Each grade range will have its own unique investigations to keep imaginations active with science, technology, and art.

Camp Info:

Pre-K half-day camps:
Hours: 9am-noon
Registration fee per child, per day: Explora members $30, non-members $40

K-8th grade full-day camps:
Hours: 9am-4pm
Registration fee per child, per day: Explora members $60, non-members $80

Add Before or After Camp Care (optional):
Times: 8-9am and/or 4-5:30pm
$5 per child, per morning or afternoon

Monday, March 20

Pre-K (9am-12pm)
LIGHT (Camp full)
Watch light and shadows dance on the big screen. Create shadows using light and your imagination.

K-2 (9am-4pm)
PLAYFUL PENDULUMS (Camp full)
Explore pendulums and chaotic motion. Create a pendulum that draws in the sand, one that paints, and much more.

K-2 (9am-4pm)
MUD MAKERS (Camp full)
Get your hands dirty! Create your own sculpture as you explore the world of mud. Use microscopes and magnifiers to look at dirt and sand from all over the world.

3rd-5th (9am-4pm)
SEASONS OF THE SUN
How did a librarian more than 2,200 years ago use shadows to measure the circumference of the earth? We’ll try a similar experiment, discover sunspots, and explore how the earth’s motion and tilt determine seasons.

3rd-5th (9am-4pm)
PUSH AND PULL
Experience the forces used in different types of systems. Design and build a contraption that uses liquid and/or air to move objects.


Tuesday, March 21

Pre-K (9am-12pm)
AIR (Camp full)
Whoosh! Let’s explore air! Trap it in a bubble, use it to turn pinwheels, and more.

K-2 (9am-4pm)
LIGHT AND MIRRORS (Camp full)
Discover the basic properties of light using mirrors and reflection, lenses and refraction, kaleidoscopes and symmetry. Make a picture using sunlight and make a mirrored periscope!

K-2 (9am-4pm)
WATER AND THE ARTS (Camp full)
Discover how water can provide inspiration for, and the basis of, art, music, and the theater!

3rd-5th (9am-4pm)
BRAIN GAMES
Delve into the many ways your brain can trick your eyes. Experiment with visual perception activities like making something disappear before your eyes. Use LEDs, microcontrollers, and computers to design illusions. Make a message that magically appears, and more.

6th-8th 
EXPLORA CSI (FORENSIC SCIENCE) Camp canceled 
Learn how to analyze fingerprints, powders, and fibers. Experiment with chromatography and other forensic techniques that can be applied to solve mysteries of all sorts.

PATTERNS (Camp full)
Look! Do you notice a pattern in the leaves, seashells, stairs, and even in your clothes? Explore and create patterns.

K-2 (9am-4pm)
MUD MAKERS (Camp full)

COLOR (Camp full)
Can you make color change? Or disappear? Be a color magician and create color tricks!

K-2 (9am-4pm)

BATHROOM SCIENCE
Be a bathroom chemist! Test several shampoos and toothpaste brands for effectiveness, try different concoctions to make your own glycerin soap, go on a germ hunt, and more.

6th-8th (9am-4pm)
CHEMISTRY OF COOKING – CREATIVE CARBS (Camp canceled)
Welcome chemical chefs new and old into the delicious Explora Kitchen! We will learn about sugars and experiment with how to determine which foods contain carbohydrates and how to make the perfect loaf of bread. (Gluten-free students welcome; please advise upon registration.)

  • If a cancelation is received at least 5 business days before the camp, a refund will be issued for the amount minus a 15% administration fee.
  • Cancelations received fewer than 5 business days before the camp will not be refunded.
  • Full fees will be refunded if Explora cancels a program.

  • Before care: (Extra option), beginning at 8 am.
  • Activities: Classroom activities as described, plus exhibit exploration.
  • Food: Please pack morning & afternoon peanut-free snacks and lunch as appropriate.
  • Break time: Outside on the Explora playground, weather permitting.
  • Pick-up: 12 pm for Pre-K and 4 pm for for K-6th grade. Adults will be asked to show photo ID at pick-up.
  • After care: (Extra option) for K-6th, 4-5:30 pm.

Explora educators develop camp activities with children’s developmental levels in mind. Your children will have the opportunity to learn from, and work with older and younger peers and make new friends.
