From flight engineering to brain games with illusions, from comedy to biology, we’ve got oodles of engaging, hands-on activities in science, technology and art to ignite curiosity and encourage exploration.

KINDERGARTEN- 12 YEAR OLDS

Monday, April 14

  • K-7 years
    Inch by Inch:
    Use balance scales, measuring cups, eyedroppers and more to explore the concept of measuring. You'll measure out the ingredients for a snack, weight some wacky objects, find out exactly how tall you are, and a whole lot more.
  • 7-9 years
  • That Bright Light:
    Discover the basic properties of light using mirrors and reflection, lenses and refraction, kaleidoscopes and symmetry, sunlight and picture making, and more.
  • 7-9 years
    Home
    Sweet Home:
    Discover where animals, plants, and insects like to live. Design a plant terrarium, construct a birdhouse, and build a second home for a snail.
  • 9-12 years
    Brain Games:
    Delve into the many ways your brain can trick your eyes. Experiment with visual perception activities like making something disappear before your very eyes. Use LED's, microcontrollers and computers to design illusions. Make a message that magically appears, and more.

  • K-7 years
    Soil Investigators:

    Dig into the wonders of pebbles, sand, dirt, and clay. Use microscopes to investigate these earth materials, and discover how each one is unique.

  • 7-9 years
    Dimensions of Design:

    Transform digital drawings into your own unique architectural model. You'll draw upon a variety of techniques, technologies, and tools to engineer your vision and use recycled materials, collage, and mapping to design a unique city.

  • 9-12 years
    Dealing with Wheeling:
    Put your brain in a whirl as you discover the secrets of moving in circles. Play with a dizzying array of gyroscopes, wheels, and systems to investigate torque, angular momentum, spinning, rolling, and turning.

    Huevos Experimentales:
    Diviértete diseñando y experimentando con diferentes sistemas para evitar que tu piloto (un huevo) reviente! Diseña y construye equipo para protegerlo, observa tu huevo-piloto estrellarse en diferentes tipos de colisiones, revisa el impacto en cámara lenta, y trabaja mejorando tus diseños.

    Encircling Circles:
    Be in the loop as you discover how engaging math can be. You'll create art with circles and swirls, design structures with cones, cylinders and domes, and test spinning discs and spirals.
  • K-7 years
    Wonderful Water:
    Get wet exploring ice and water, and investigate absorption, adhesion, and other unique properties of water. Create a water drop roller coaster, and much more.
  • 7-9 years
    Windy 500:
    Design a wind-powered car that goes the distance! Use cardboard, tubing, dowels, plastic sheets, and more to build your own car, and test variables to refine your design.
  • 9-12 years
    So You Think You're Funny:
    Calling all jokesters and jesters! Explore the world of comedy through warm-up games, vocal exercises, and prop selection. You'll practice your comedic skill and delivery in the Explora Theater.

  • K-7 years
    Beautiful Bubbles:
    You'll use a variety of materials to experiment with bubble blowing as you test 2-D and 3-D bubble wands of different shapes, create bubble prints to take home, and more.
  • K-7 years
    Little Green Thumbs:

    Get your hands dirty as you compare and contrast different seeds, dissect lima beans and fruit, and plant seeds and flowers to take home.
  • 7-9 years
    Super Structures:
    Demonstrate your engineering skills as you build super towers structures! Use sticks, mini glue guns, and your ideas! Then test them for strength, height, wind, and earthquake resistance, and try to build other super structures as time allows.
  • 9-12 years
    Go Green!:
    Use water, sun rays, wind, and light—no batteries included—to explore natural power sources. You’ll design and build solar cars, air-powered rockets, wind mills, illuminate a city, and make your own green house

    Friday, April 18

  • K-7 years
    The World of Insects:

    Did you know insects outnumber humans 200 million to one? Examine insects under microscopes, investigate their behavior in response to various stimuli, and design a habitat for your critter of choice.
  • 7-9 years
    Blast Off:

    Experiment with inertia, thrust, action/reaction, propulsion, and aerodynamics as you design and test water-powered and air-powered rockets that soar.
  • 7-9 years
    Powders and Crystals:

    Discover the wonders of chemistry as you watch powders change colors, and see how fireworks get their colors, identify mystery mixtures, grow a variety of crystals and more.
  • 9-12 years
    Burning Questions:

    Put your safety glasses on! You'll experiment with a combustion chamber, test how oxygen and carbon dioxide affect flames, and examine how heat alters various materials and substances.
