SESSIONS MEET EVERY WEEK

Be curious, discover, experiment!

Explora’s Home School Explorations Series offers your child a semester of weekly, hour-long experiential science, technology, and art programs. Each Exploration is facilitated by Explora educators. These are hour-long, materials-rich classes that actively engage every child in inquiry activities. In these classes, children will make discoveries in science, technology, engineering, math, and art through questioning, experiencing, and investigating. Children will be encouraged to build their own knowledge and cultivate skills such as observation, creativity, critical thinking, cooperative learning, communication, and innovation as they explore a different topic each week. Class topics change each semester.

Explorations Schedule

Beautiful Bubbles

9/17 or 9/18
Get ready for some soapy fun as students use a variety of materials and solutions to experiment with bubble blowing. Students observe the colors in a bubble and make colorful bubble prints.

Fruit or Veggies?

9/24 or 9/25
We’ll dissect different fruits and vegetables to find out what’s inside. Then, we’ll make colorful fruit and vegetable prints to take home, assemble our own snacks, and more!

Forceful Magnets

10/1 or 10/2
Investigate which items are attracted to magnets and which are not, and explore attracting and repelling with a wide variety of materials. Students use magnets to add “fur” to animal pictures, race magnetic cars, and more.

Air Under Pressure

10/8 or 10/9
Catch some air and see how it takes up space. Experiment with the power of compressed air and investigate how moving air interacts with objects

In a Spin

10/15 or 10/16
Experiment with spinning and twirling, looping and whirling. Students make their own tops and “twirly birds” to take home.

Wonderful Rainbows

10/22 or 10/23
Separate light into the color spectrum and experience the colors that make up rainbows. Use a variety of items to find and create your own rainbows, and more.

Static Power

10/29 or 10/30
Get charged up about electricity. Make your hair stand on end with static electricity and go fishing with a balloon. Make a static toy to take home.

Be a Mad Hatter

11/5 or 11/6
Many people wear hats, but have you ever thought about why? Students test fabrics to determine which are the most water repellent, explore how hats’ forms are related to their functions, observe hats in works of art, and make original hats to wear home.

Pebbles, Sand, and Silt

11/12 or 11/13
Get ready to sort rocks, dig in sand, and look for living material in garden soil as we investigate the properties of these natural materials.

Looking for a Pattern

11/19 or 11/20
Investigate patterns in nature, discover designs in animal footprints, experiment with rhythm patterns, and create your own design on a big hat you can wear.

Mysterious Matter

11/26 or 11/27
Investigate properties of solids, liquids, and gases as you compare and contrast different kinds of matter. Students investigate various solids, swirling liquid layers, and more.

Spring, Stretch, and Bounce

12/3 or 12/4
Investigate stretchy and springy materials and walk with springs on your feet. Make your own stretchy, bouncy toy to take home.
